We all have a funeral story.

We’d like to hear yours.

The Idea

Funerals are the last goodbye. We say farewell to loved ones and sometimes we even say goodbye to strangers we’ve never met, maybe a parent of a friend. Sometimes we show up out of affection, other times it’s obligation. Funerals can be diverse and meaningful, marking the end of a chapter in our lives and the end of the story for the deceased. The funeral allows us to move on and leave behind the past, no matter our feelings towards the deceased. They truly offer closure for both positive and negative experiences.

While people do cry, they also laugh, smile, and sometimes even fall in love. It's a chance to reunite with old friends, share stories, and exchange hugs. Funerals can be tragic, but they can also have elements of comedy and drama. Attend enough funerals and you'll witness some truly unexpected moments.

Funeral directors, embalmers, clergy, casket makers, florists, death doulas…all those people have unique perspectives of the funeral process. They say the funeral isn’t about the deceased, it’s about the living. The folks that work in the funeral business know that best.

We’d like to hear the stories from the memorable funerals, the huge funerals and the tiny funerals. Tell us about the gatherings afterwards, the tears and the laughter. We also want to hear the stories from those who work in the funeral business, those that help us navigate our way through as we prepare to say goodbye.

We want to collect these stories to share with everyone, whether it's through a book, a zine, or even a podcast. We're interested in hearing about the good times, the bad times, the funny moments, the emotional moments, and everything in between. We hope you'll join us and share your funeral story. After all, our stories all conclude with a funeral. So why not celebrate those moments while we can?
